HAPPENIN'S

CARSON CITY RENDEZVOUS

WE WOUND UP WITH 11KAMPS, 10 TRADREZ. WE SHOT 12 POUNDS OF POWDER THRU STEVE "MICK" MOORES CANNON, WHICH IN TURN PISSED OFF SOME OF OUR NEIGHBORS ACROSS THE CREEK FROM US. AH, THAT'S TO BAD LOL. STEVE AND AJ ROBINSON WERE BLANKET TRADERS THEY WERE SELLING BEADS FROM THE BEAD STORE THAT LARRY HAD SENT WITH THEM. WE TAUGHT LOTS OF PILGRIMS TO THROW TOMAHAWKS. ALL IN ALL THAT EVENT WAS A GOOD ONE.

FT CHURCHILL WORK PARTY

WE, WES, PAT, TWO FALLS , AND KRYER WENT OUT TO FT CHURCHILL ON SEPT 8TH. WE MET AT THE MUSEUM AT 9:00AM. WE MET WITH JIM, HOWARD AND ONE OF THEIR SEASONAL WORKERS LORI. THEY GAVE US THE TOOLS WE WERE GOING TO NEED FOR OUR PROJECTS FOR THE DAY THEY GAVE US RAKES, POLASKSI'S AND SHOVELS. THEY TOOK US TO THE GROUP AREA, THAT'S WHERE WE CAMP THEN THEY TOOK US ON THE TRAIL THAT LEADS TO THE RIVER FROM THE BACK SIDE OF THE CAMP GROUND. THEY EXPLAINED TO US THAT THE TRAIL WAS OK BUT WE NEEDED TO TRIM THE BRANCHES FROM THE TREES AND SAGEBRUSH THAT HAD OVER GROWN ONTO THE TRAIL. SO THEY LEFT TO DO THEIR NORMAL WORK. LEFT US ALONE TO CUT BACK THE BRANCHES. WHEN WE FINISHED THAT TRAIL WE WENT THE TIN TEEPEE CAMP GROUND AND DID THE SAME THING TO THAT TRAIL. WE WORKED IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO CALL IT TOOK 3 HOURS.

FALL RONDEZVOUS

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

NEVADA DAY PARADE

WE HAD A SMALL TURNOUT FOR OUR GROUP WE HAD 7 RIFLES ONE PISTOL AND 3 PEOPLE TO HOLD THE BANNER. WELL, KRYER FORGOT TO BRING THE BANNER. WE HAD A NEW COUPLE WALKING WITH US THEY WERE JASON AND HIS WIFE SQUIRREL, THEY ARE OUT OF RENO. WE MADE AS MUCH NOISE AS WE COULD FOR OUR SMALL GROUP TWO FALLS WAS SHOOTING HIS BROWN BESS WITH 250 GRAINDS OF BLACK POWDER. I WAS SHOOTING 200 IN MY SHOT GUN. PAT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS GUN IT WOULD SHOOT GOOD ONE SHOT THEN THE NEXT WOULDN'T GO OFF WITH OUT POPPING 3 CAPS FOR THE SHOT. NEED LESS TO SAY HE WAS FRUSTRATED. NEXT YEAR WE WILL START GETTING PEOPLE EXCITED TO WALK IN THE PARADE EARLIER IN THE YEAR.SO WE CAN HAVE A BIG CROWD WITH BIG NOISE.

Some Muzzleloading Safety Do's and Don'ts

DO’s

Read and understand your instruction manual. If you didn't get one with your muzzleloader, order one from the manufacturer. They will send you one for free. Many companies now have a web site and online manuals are common.

Wear shatterproof shooting glasses and ear protection, as both percussion and flintlock guns may shower sparks and bits of caps/flints when fired.

Treat a misfire or failure to fire as though the gun can fire at any second. Wait at least a minute with gun pointed at the target.

Be sure all spectators are completely behind you when firing. Flames and bits of caps/flint sometimes exit from the side of the gun. It is good shooting etiquette to warn other shooters that you are about to fire a flint lock next to them.

DO NOT

Never fire a muzzleloader unless the ball is firmly seated against the powder charge. Firing a muzzleloader with the ball off the powder or part way up the barrel may cause serious damage to the firearm and possibly serious injury to the shooter.

Do not exceed manufacturer's recommended maximum powder charge.

Never use FFFFg black powder for a charge in any muzzleloader at any time. The only safe use for fine priming powder is for the priming of a pan on a flint lock. Fine powders will cause excessive pressures and could very well burst your barrel.

Never lean over (or stand in front of) the muzzle at any time.

Never attempt to shoot out a projectile which is not firmly seated against the powder charge
