This
is my version of Rooster Rock, which is a small peak which can be seen from
Hwy.58. Here it is modeled between the Salmon Creek bridge and the Salt
Creek bridge.
The
Salmon Creek bridge just outside Oakridge.
The
Salt Creek bridge.
Passing
Wicopee, heading towards Fields. This is where the uphill grade
starts. On this layout the maximum grade is about 1.5%.
A
freight leaving Oakridge, headed toward tunnel 22 and Eugene.
Another
view of the same freight showing the signals indicating clear to proceed on the
main.
A
work crew is cleaning up ties at Westfir as a slow freight comes off the
Willamette River bridge.
A
freight splits the signals at the other end of the Willamette River
bridge. Here the train will pass the Superior Paper plant at Eugene,
Oregon. This plant generates much of the freight on the railroad.
A
freight slows dramatically after leaving the helix and entering Cascade
Summit. This signal bridge is modeled after the prototype signal bridge
located at Cascade Summit. Here trains enter dynamic braking for the trip
down to Oakridge.
The
same train enters tunnel 3 on its way down hill. Propane tanks for the
switch heaters can be seen here.
A
freight winds its way out of tunnel 8 headed into Fields. This railroad
models the passing sidings at Wicopee, Fields and Cascade Summit.
With
dynamic brakes whining, a high priority container train exits tunnel 8 just up
hill from Fields.
Just
after crossing the Salt Creek trestle, this freight is headed up hill toward
Wicopee.
Coming
down hill at Wicopee. You can see I have not ballasted this area yet.
Exiting
tunnel 8, climbing along the side of the mountain.
A
train slowly exiting the snow shed at tunnel 5.
After
cresting the summit at Cascade Summit, this train is headed for the helix.
This
is the Eugene yard with a train exiting the helix.
Propane
tanks piled up waiting to be distributed to the switch heaters on the hill.
Superior
Paper at Eugene. This is a source for box cars, covered hoppers, tank cars
and wood chip cars.
A
train exits tunnel 22 at enters Oakridge. This is where helpers are added
to the rear of the trains and the push up the hill begins.
The
tool shed at Fields.
Model
of the wheel lubricator at Wicopee.
