Anne with Sheila (1977-97) |
Hi! I'm Anne. Thanks for visiting our home page. I was born long ago, in a galaxy far, far away... well, actually, in New Orleans, LA. I moved to Wisconsin when I was 23 and have lived most of the time since then in Madison. I met Lee in January 1985 and we got married in September 1986. While Lee and I are happily
married, we are NOT joined at the hip, so each of us has interests not shared
(much) by the other. Here are some links to my special interests:
Adoption
Being an adoptive parent, this is a topic close to my heart.
- Abrazo Adoption Associates in San
Antonio, TX, the agency that enabled our daughter, Maya, to
find us in 1996.
- Adoption
Awareness Month is November. But visit this site any time of year to learn
more about adoption.
- Raising Adopted
Children is a comprehensive website by the publisher of "Adopted Child"
newsletter.
- Adoption: a
gathering -- an online project of the Public Broadcasting Service
- The Adoption Web Ring
-- a public service webring of over 400 web pages, dedicated to the best
interests of the adoption triad -- birthparents, adoptive parents and (of
course) adoptees.
Music
When it comes to music, I've felt "struck by lightning" three
times. From newest to oldest, the musicians are:
- Monte Montgomery
-- my favorite musician, the real deal, and the greatest singer/songwriter/guitarist you've probably never heard of
- Bruce Springsteen -- still
rockin', still The Boss
- The Beatles
-- yeah yeah yeah, my first loves
Baseball
I've been a fan since my childhood, when I used to watch the
"Baseball Game of the Week" with my dad. I suffer through winter, till I hear
the magic words, "Play Ball!"
- Milwaukee Brewers -- my
team, in spite of myself and themselves. Even the move to their new stadium, Miller Park didn't perk up the team this year. In the immortal words of Cubs fans, "There's always next year."
- The National Baseball Hall of
Fame and Museum -- The shrine of baseball, in Cooperstown, NY.
Congratulations to the 2001 inductees: Bill Mazeroski, Kirby Puckett,
Hilton Smith and Dave Winfield.
- The Science of Baseball
-- a wonderful website presented by The Exploratium, San Francisco. I
highly recommend it.
- StrikeThree.Com - a newer site
with lots of great baseball gossip, speculation etc. that baseball fanatics
thrive on.
Humor and commentary
Some of my favorite humor and/or commentary websites include:
Busting Internet hoaxes and urban legends
Please, please be considerate
and DO NOT forward these kinds of messages (kidney thieves, free shoes from
Nike, etc.) to "everyone you know." Instead, take a deep breath, count to 10,
and check one of the following websites to see if your topic is listed as either
an urban legend or a hoax.
Unitarian Universalism
Mythology
I've been interested in mythology since about 1989, when I
heard Bill Moyers' interviews with the late Joseph Campbell. What I have fits
well with my belief that, at heart, people are pretty much the same all over the
world.
