These are a few of my favorite examples of low relief stone carving from Chichen Itza, Tikal and Palenque. This particular low relief carving is fairly high up a temple in Chichen Itza. The reddish light of the late afternoon sun accentuates the reddish tone of the stone itself. The style of carving looks more like classic Maya than the Toltec influenced Puuc style of the Yucatan peninsula to me.
