Two women who were best friends

in high school are now in their
"remembering" years.  They have
colaborated on a beautiful little
book entitled Christmas at Grandma's.

Janet Darr has written the story of
children visiting their grandmother
at this magical season.  It combines her memories of many mysterious Christmasses she experienced as a tiny girl in Chicago
in the 1930's and 40's.

The memories and their portrayal
are inspirational. Read a short selection...

"... After everyone had arrived, a little bell announced Santa's arrival.  Then each of us would be given a large gumdrop with a Lifesaver stuck into the side of it for a handle and a candle stuck into the top.  The candles were lit and everyone walked, very slowly, holding the candle very carefully, down that long, dark hallway; the children leading the way ...

Then the lights in the living room were turned on and Santa was there, with a big bag stuffed full of gifts, something for each of the children, young and old.  Even the grown-ups would go up and get a gift from Santa and, sometimes, sit on his lap.

... I have only to close my eyes and I can be in that hallway, watching that flickering candle flame, experiencing the importance and responsibility of carrying a lighted candle all by myself, the anticipation, the mysteriousness of the darkness all about, feeling the nearness of the other children, with the grown-ups following behind ..."

Mary Ann's timeless illustrations
bring Janet's fanciful memories to life like no other children's book available today.

She portrays the era in her amazing style; beautifully bold and tenderly felt.

The books are professionally bound in a 7" x 9" format, with green and red covers.  These are perfect for little hands or mature hands and make charming Christmas stocking stuffers...

Testimonial:
Dear Mrs. Darr,
Hi, this is Chase. I'm Linda Golla's step-
grandson, as you may already know. I am
writing this letter to thank you for the
FANTASTIC book you wrote for me. Let me tell
you, I LOVED it. You worded everything
perfectly. The illustrations were great too.
Let me just say that (if you're not already)
you would be great as a full-time author
publishing books! Once again, thanks.
Thanks,
Chase
