U.S. ARMY BRANCH INSIGNIA
First World War
By 1917, the US Army had moved away from a blue service or combat uniform,
to one of 'field brown'. For dress occasions there was still the blue uniform
with its bright and shining insignia. The insignia for the service uniform,
except for officers' insignia of rank, was of a subdued, bronze or blackened
bronze color.
Insignia shown are the officers' versions. Enlisted soldiers wore a smaller
version, superimposed on a metal disc of the same color metal.
