Project Rustbucket
The mission of the next project seemed simple enough, go to a somewhat local junkyard which has Corvairs in it and retrieve new wheel openings and a new front center section. So armed with a small arsenal of air tools, my 8hp gas compressor, 100 foot of air hose, cordless sawzall, and lots of other neat tools, I headed off to the "yard"
'Burban loaded up with TailGagtor and compressor...perfect junkyard truck...
You can probably picture the scene, rotting Vairs everywhere...
1st fender wasnt too bad...
2nd one wouldn't have been bad, but there were probably 50 really angry wasps that didnt like me grinding into their home...only got stung 4 times on this one...
New panel near the old...
Me cutting out the old wheel opening...
Me welding in the new one, while "Bondo Bob" helps hold the new panel in place
New rear fender tacked in place
New rear fender and new Clark's quarter panel tacked in place
New front piece welded in, see now it will even look more like a real Corvair...
Here is the pile of all the metal and rust and bondo we cut out today...ewwww
