Notes

Age groups

The tour is designed to include the maximum number of sites, and the pace is fairly fast.  It is therefore recommended for reasonably fit persons between the ages of 10 and 65.

Health Tips

Malaria

Malaria is endemic to the area, and it is therefore advisable to consult a medical practitioner prior to departure in order to obtain a prophylactic.  The best defense is, however, to avoid mosquito bites. Some preventative measures are:
Apply insect repellent to exposed parts every 4 - 6 hours.  Light coloured protective clothing, such as long pants, socks and closed shoes should be worn at dusk and dawn as these are the feeding times of the carrier Anopheles mosquito.

Sunburn

As the visit includes a large amount of outdoor activity, it is essential that tourists guard against sunburn. This would include: Sun block lotion Hat or capSunglasses

Dehydration

The area we visit is fairly hot, and the humidity is normally low.  These factors contribute to dehydration.   We will provide you with fresh bottled water and refreshment towels while traveling in our vehicles. Take note that normal tap water in South Africa is treated and potable, however, if you prefer you may purchase bottled water.

Medical and Personal Insurance

Private medical treatment in South Africa is quite costly, therefore it is recommended that medical insurance be arranged before departure.  We would also advice the you take out Personal insurance.

Clothing and Luggage

Due to space restrictions, luggage should be restricted to two large suitcase and one small pieces of hand luggage per person. All clothes should be of light weight, absorbent material, such as cotton, and typically a short sleeved shirt and short pants for men will suffice.  Long pants, a pullover or sweater and closed shoes and socks will be required should the evenings be chilly.  For ladies a skirt, slacks / jeans and a short sleeved blouse will be adequate.   Shoes should be light weight sandals with non-slip soles.  A raincoat will be required as December – February is raining season in Mpumalanga. On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport warmer clothes should be worn as this is a cooler part of the country.

Nice-to-Have's

Don't forget to bring along your camera / video, to capture those memorable moments.  All types of film are available in South Africa. Binoculars will be extremely useful, so bring along your own. The electrical supply in South Africa is 220V AC, please supply your own adapters.
