  • All Football Edition
Today is the first Saturday of College football, and that means we put the lefty politics and internet weirdness aside for the day and present the All Football Edition of The Victory Cabal. There's already been a few good games (so far, we're most impressed with Houston's performance against Oregon, even if they didn't win), some games that asked more questions than they answered (shouldn't South Carolina looked better aginst UCF?) and a RUTS (AZ State vs. Temple). Now we get into the meat of the weekend. Among today's games, we're most looking forward to Boise State at Georgia.

But let's face it, all we really care about is tomorrow night's Virginia Tech at NC State game. 7:15 on the Deuce. Be There.

  • Another blog
Welcome the The Officially Unofficial Mississippi State Athletics Blog to the Victory Cabal circle of friends. It's ran by StateSkills, who is the brother of a good friend from college (and a good friend himself), and focuses on Mississippi State athletics. We're putting a link to his blog in the lefthand column of the main page, so you'll be able to check in regularly. He already pwned us with THIS POST. Some wag has assigned Simpsons characters to all the ACC schools. Though I wouldn't pick Cletus for Virginia Tech myself, it's still really funny.

  • Fantasy Football
SI.com presents Ten reasons why I detest the fantasy football craze. Can't say I disagree too much.

  • The Pro Hokie
Heavy C sent this link listing former Hokies in the pros. Navigating around the site is a little tricky, but there's some good info here.

  • VT vs. UT
Finally, Heavy C also sent us this article. The Knoxville News Sentinel is a registration site, so I'll put the complete text below. I pitched a tent just reading it, I hope they pull it off somehow. And they just might, VT AD Jim Weaver did say (on this weeks Hokie Hotline radio show) that there has been contact and there might be something to it.

$20 million offer could lure UT to play at Bristol

Bruton Smith has never been afraid to put his money where his mouth is. The combination of the two has the University of Tennessee interested.

The chairman and CEO of Speedway Motorsports is trying to jumpstart an old idea: a football game between UT and Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway. Why might it succeed now when it failed before? The stakes have been raised.
"Twenty million to each team," Smith said. "Universities always want money so that would be $20 million for your university (UT) and $20 million for Virginia (Tech). That would be a pretty big financial day for them."
UT has long resisted moving a home game to Bristol. However, that was when the speedway had offered UT approximately $3.5 million in 1999 to play a regular-season game on the infield of the .533-mile, high-banked oval track.
