All Football Edition II
Ok, I'll admit it. Watching football yesterday did feel a little weird. I'm thankfull that I have the luxury to sit on my ass on the couch in comfort, with plenty of food and fresh water, and no dead bodies floating past my balcony. I think there's some guilt there too...
Well, back to shit that doesn't matter so much. College football continues today. Yesterday was pretty exciting. Let me say that seeing TCU beat Oklahoma was just... just... great. That kind of thing just doesn't happen enough for me.
The ACC has been doing well so far. Duke and Wake Forrest dropped a couple early, but Boston College, UVA, Maryland, and Clemson have all put one in the win column (Hey Cavaliers, way to just scrape by Directional Michigan), and Georgia Tech won a great one against Auburn.
Today, Virginia Tech faces NC State. Oh, and here's some shit. NCState AD Lee Fowler is urging fans to carpool to the game and that they "not assume that there will be gas available locally for their return trip home."

Announcerless Football?
Salon.com's sports columnist King Kaufman has written a couple of articles about something thats going on in Canada. The CBC locked out 5,500 camera operators, directors and announcers who are members of the Canadian Media Guild. Rather than not show CFL games at all, they're just setting up a couple of cameras and are showing the game with no announcers, just a mic to pick up stadium noise.
This has been wildly successful, and ratings have been going through the roof. Frankly, I'd love to watch some football games without announcers. Unfortunately, we're in no danger of this happening here. As King correctly points out, announcers aren't really there to talk about the game - they're there to read all the promos that the network gets paid big bucks for.
Anyway, you can read both of the articles here: Aug. 24 and Aug. 31. If you're not a subscriber, you can get a day pass by watching a short commercial. Go ahead, it only takes a few seconds.
