  • WTVC is back on the air
So I bet you were wondering what happened to the Cabal. Well, so was Heavy C over at The Lazy Eye. He was so worried, he even wrote to us:

dude...what's up....delay indicted, frist under investigation, bush fucking up tasks as simple as boiling water, bennett calling for the euthanasia of all blacks, with kos all the while laughing maniacally in the distance and you're nowhere to be found?

    you ok?

look for me @ the wvu game...i'll be he VT fan putting out the burning couch with my bloodied face.

And he's right. So much crazy stuff has gone on, it's tough to know where to start...

  • Harriett Miers
Sure. Here's a good place to start. This seems like a weird pick. Though we find Roberts a bit dangerous politically, he at least had the resume. Sure he wasn't a judge for very long, be was Solicitor General for a long time and argued a ton of cases before the court.

Yes, we know there have been many Justices who were never judges, but they've usually come from attorneys general, law schools, or something else. Not the Texas State Lottery Commission. On the other hand, anything the pisses off Pat Buchanan that much can't be all bad. Frankly, we here at The Cabal don't know enough about Miers to even have an opinion that's worth anything. We tend to argee with Bill From Portland in DailyKos's Tuesday Cheers and Jeers:

SHEESH to the first Monday in October. As John Roberts takes over the reins as chief justice, Harriett Miers kinda nominates herself to replace Sandra Day O'Connor. And in a matter of minutes, pundits on both the right and the left balled up their fists and went at it like Rock `Em Sock `Em Robots.  Forget handguns...we need a 24-hour waiting period for knee-jerk reactions.

  • Stupid Stupid Stupid
While we're visiting DailyKos, here's something that Kos himself posted to the main page, and we think it's something that liberals and conservatives alike can agree is a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE idea:

That day might be getting closer.
Federal regulators are reassessing the rules barring phones in the air even as some international airlines are gradually introducing Internet access to their planes. And two European carriers - TAP Air Portugal and BMI, a British company - said recently that they would become the first to proceed with cellphone service, in three-month trials on flights within Europe next year.
Ugh. Please, no. Internet, definitely. Cell phones, nope.

What kind of circle of hell would it be to be stuck next to some asshat who spends the entire flight squawking at full volume into his cellphone? WORST. IDEA. EVER.

  • So really, where was everyone?
We've all been busy with a lot of stuff over the past few weeks, and something had to give. Unfortunately for you - the reader - what gave was The Cabal.

But while you've been waiting breathlessly by your computer, I've been having a grand old time. I even went to a Fark party last weekend. If that sentence made no sense to you, you should be hanging out at FARK. If it did make sense, and you're a Farker, you should go to one. It was a great time. I'll try to get more up about it.

  • Hey Vic, how 'bout them Hokies!
    Seriously. Check this out:

    Wow. 5-0(3-0). That's really exciting.

While we're on the topic, let me point again towards The Officially Unofficial Mississippi State Athletics Blog. StateSkills is doing a really good job over there. I'm sure it's been a tough season so far for Miss. State fans, but the conventional wisdom here at The Cabal is that Croom is a good coach, and he's building a good program. However, in a conference as tough as the SEC, that's going to take time. With the college football world like it is, we don't know if he'll be given that kind of time. We'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, StateSkills has had some nice things to say about Virginia Tech. Perhaps it's fond memories of those times he visited his brother and the rest of us idiots there, perhaps it's just that he's a college football fan (like all right thinking people). Anyway, on Mondays he does a feature called "Things I learned this weekend." We're big fans and check in every week to see what he thought of the weekend's action. Well, that and to see what he's saying about Virginia Tech. Check out all of these:

VT-NC State will be a great rivalry. Just three hours apart, similar schools, playing similar styles of football, these two teams are growing into one of the best rivalries on the East Coast.

Virginia Tech is the new Florida State. They will dominate the ACC for years to come. I realize it was against Duke, but the Hokies scored more points than yards allowed. Wow.

    2005-09-19
Miami has lost its swagger. And I'm pretty sure Virginia Tech stole it.

Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. is a magical place where opponents go to die. There is not a better atmosphere in the ACC and only a few can be found in the country. That place is loud every play. You can't tell if it's third down or first down. One word: relentless.

Marcus Vick really may be a better quarterback than his brother. Not a better player, but a better quarterback.

Be sure you're stopping by to check out his blog. Keep up the great work, StateSkills!
