  • Brackets II
After the first two rounds, my bracket isn't doing so well. One of my final four (Kansas) lost in the first round. Would it do any good to tell you that some of my other brackets are doing much better? Meh, probably not. Anyway, you can go check out the damage.

  • Bill Frist is losing his mind
In our last post, we linked to a wacky Republican who seemed not to realize that his party was the one responsible for the very things he was complaining about. Bill Frist (R-inside trader, videotape watcher, cat killer) must have felt the pressure and stepped up his game. Enjoy this little gem from an email he sent:

“The Democrat alternative to Republican efforts to restrain spending is clear: Continue to spend beyond our means, mortgaging our children’s future by saddling them with a debt of $8 trillion … and continue to ratchet up taxes to pay for their fiscal irresponsibility, stifling the American economy,” Frist wrote.

His use of the freeper "Democrat" (as opposed to the typical, and accepted "Democratic") aside, what Kool-Aid has he been drinking? Seriously. He's the Senate Majority Leader, his party controls the White House, and both houses of Congress. He's not really trying to blame the Democratic party for unrestrained spending and $8 trillion dollars in debt (soon to be $9 trillion, for those of you playing at home), is he?

Republicans and conservatives: Your party could have done something about this ANY TIME they wanted. They control the government, they can do whatever they want. They CHOOSE not to reflect your values. Today, Bush became the longest-sitting President since Thomas Jefferson not to exercise his veto. He could have vetoed any spending bill he thought was too large. He has not done this. This is not the fault of Democrats, or liberals, or any other boogeyman you want to blame. Republicans are to blame.
