Hawaiiana Floor Decor

July 2001   Haiku, Maui, Hawaii
This is a commission I worked while in Maui over the summer. The image is handpainted onto a wood floor in a vintage plantation house in the "Rice Camp" area of Haiku, Maui. An endless lei of ilima flowers and maile leaves wrap around the entire room area with a bouquet of jungle flowers and a hidden pineapple offering a seperation between the living room and dining room floor. The painting was done with oil enamels and then coated with polyurthene.

Here I am showing a brief glimpse from concept and inspiration to details of the finished work.
