Content management systems such as EMC’s Documentum impose needed structure, patterns, and classification on content that has a life of its own. Content evolves, blending into natural selections of users who could care less about the original design. Business processes change even more. Any attempt to create an automated process that is hard to change is doomed to early extinction. Add in human nature to the mix and we have an infinite blend of possible ways to design a system. How many times do business users change their minds and want add/delete/modify attribute values during the initial phases of the project, when they really understand the ramifications of the system, and as you a developer have to migrate from design to design, system to system, environment to environment?
