Eleanor Crete Rankel - 1951

This is to notify you that the Class of '51 lost another of its members in November of 2003.  Thomas "Butch" Howarth succumbed to cancer last November.  Butch was a lot of fun and a real asset to the class.

Bob Laliberte - 1938

I attended our 65th reunion of the Class of 1938 on June 25, 2003 which was held at the Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center. Twenty-seven classmates gathered for a luncheon,  general socializing,  reminiscing and a commemorative photograph of the group. It was a gathering that many of us could not have imagined on the day in June 1938 when we, as our Class Book reflects, were " to attempt the greatest experiment of all - Life". Sixty-five years later we have realized the results of that test and some of us were able to celebrate those many years with a most cherished reunion. Even though the individual professions which were represented varied greatly, the common denominator, "Class of 1938" certainly prevailed. It was evidenced by the degree of friendliness, compassion, joviality and loyalty demonstrated throughout the short period we were able to be together. The Committee which arranged for and managed this affair is to be congratulated.

I must comment here however, on the exploits of one specific member of that committee. Claire Lemire has demonstrated a sustained degree of loyalty to our Class not often observed. Down through the years she has maintained a file card system on each member with all the semi demographic data she has been able to research and assemble. Her persistent efforts to obtain, record and maintain the pertinent data on each of her classmates is deserving of great praise. She has also been the driving influence in organizing and managing the many reunions which our class has had. On behalf of the Class of 1938 I would like to express our sincere thanks to Claire and say to her  "hopefully we will see you at the 70th as 2008 is not that far away."

Ada Tieri Pezzetti - 1957

To All Members of the Class of 1957,

Since I was secretary of the Class of 1957, I’m extending my duties to 2002 to report on our 45th Reunion ! It was held on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Sturbridge Host in the Sturbridge Room from 7:00 PM to midnight .  25 alumni arrived along with 18 guests and thank goodness for name tags as some of us would have been ( and were!) hard pressed to come up with a name!  Our cocktail hour was fun “discovering” who we all were, then we had a great buffet, followed by a picture taking session and distribution of “prizes” for the “most”, the “farthest”, etc. and etc.  Master of Ceremonies and Chairperson Vin Kochanek ( Pennsylvania ) greeted everyone and we had a moment of silence for our late classmates (14) and we also remembered everyone who couldn’t be with us.

Classmates came from Southbridge, along with other Massachusetts towns, Auburn, Charlton, Holland, Oxford, Plymouth, and as far as Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Greece, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Vermont.  It was non-stop talk and catch-up until past midnight , and then the cleaning crew took over. Those staying at the Host said their final good-byes at the Sunday Buffet the next morning. Everyone agreed it was a fun time and we all said we’d see each other in 2007 at our 50th!  Vin was unanimously elected Chairman and he asked us all to stay in touch and to pass the word to other classmates so we can make our 50th the BEST ever!  If you’d like to help out or give suggestions as to where and when we should hold our 50th,  just e-mail Vin at: kochanek@starlinx.com

If you wish your e-mail address to be listed on the Mary Wells High School website, go to: http://webpages.charter.net/wellshighschool  and e-mail Jackie Sheehan at: wellshighschool@charter.net .  Check out the website and help to keep it alive! We appreciate Jackie and Helen Ludwin Santelli’s effort to maintain a viable website for our alma mater. Our group picture will be posted as soon as possible! Thanks to all who helped in any way.

Hi Jack!

Just a short message to compliment you and my sister, Helen Santilli, for all the work being done on this web site.  Also all the work that is being done at the Library in order that a history of our school can be maintained.  Thank you both for your dedication and interest in this project.  A job well done.

Dear Pauline (Mathieu),

Thanks for your much appreciated e-mail alerting me to the MEWHS web site.  I have gone there and was both surprised and very impressed with its quality and contents.  The person(s) who contributed their time to produce such a fine site are to be congratulated for their considerable effort and skill.  Could many have dreamed in 1942 that we'd be communicating in this way for our 60th reunion?!

I am planning to cross the continent to attend my first reunion and renew old friendships as well as to visit my friends Leonard and Priscilla (Eccleston) Gillon, Class of '40, in Coventry, Connecticut. Thanks again for your thoughtful letter.  I'll watch for additional information.

 Best regards,

 Norman Franz

The Well's Alumni web-site provides an excellent framework within which to renew old ties / acquaintances. The site is a living one and staying alive requires a collective Alumni effort. The name of the game has to be active participation anything less will mean failure. People should try their best to contribute by communicating. This can be either in private one-on-ones or via the Open Letter's Forum........the latter being a nice option as it allows for a wider audience to share.

Too often I have seen endeavours such as this fail for lack of contribution. Let's not allow this to happen.

Thanks.

I must say you have done a wonderful job in setting up this web page.  It must have taken a lot of your time, but it turned out great.  As a graduate from Wells, I thank both you and Helen for the time you spent (and are spending) on this project.

Jack:

You have your work cut out for you but what you are doing is a great service to those of us who have been gone for years or are far away. Thanks for you effort.
