POPULAR MUSIC OF THE EARLY '50'S The following "Top Ten Lists" came from the Time/Life "Our American Century" Collection. While typing these lists I was amazed at how familiar the songs were, and how quickly the lyrics were recalled. "Put another nickel in, in the Nickelodeon, all I want is loving you, and Music! Music! Music!" Wow, try it, because you probably know all of the lyrics too. And as quickly as we recognize the song, we begin to associate it with an event in time. Try that too. There is probably no better vehicle for returning us to the distant past than music.... |
