I attended our 65th reunion of the Class of 1938 on June 25, 2003 which was held at the Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center. Twenty-seven classmates gathered for a luncheon, general socializing, reminiscing and a commemorative photograph of the group. It was a gathering that many of us could not have imagined on the day in June 1938 when we, as our Class Book reflects, were " to attempt the greatest experiment of all - Life". Sixty-five years later we have realized the results of that test and some of us were able to celebrate those many years with a most cherished reunion. Even though the individual professions which were represented varied greatly, the common denominator, "Class of 1938" certainly prevailed. It was evidenced by the degree of friendliness, compassion, joviality and loyalty demonstrated throughout the short period we were able to be together. The Committee which arranged for and managed this affair is to be congratulated.

I must comment here however, on the exploits of one specific member of that committee. Claire Lemire has demonstrated a sustained degree of loyalty to our Class not often observed. Down through the years she has maintained a file card system on each member with all the semi demographic data she has been able to research and assemble. Her persistent efforts to obtain, record and maintain the pertinent data on each of her classmates is deserving of great praise. She has also been the driving influence in organizing and managing the many reunions which our class has had. On behalf of the Class of 1938 I would like to express our sincere thanks to Claire and say to her "hopefully we will see you at the 70th as 2008 is not that far away."

The following letter was received from Claire Lemire on the occasion of the 65th Reunion

Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center

Although we were to be 30 actual classmates meeting for our 65th Mary E. Wells High School Class Reunion , three didn't show - hence the 27 of us in the picture.

We have been fortunate in that we have met every 5 years except for the 55th due to circumstances beyond our control. In addition to meeting every 5 years we have been meeting with the "kids" who can make it in a day, every year at noon for a mini luncheon at Rom's Restaurant in Sturbridge. It is such a treat to see everybody when we do meet that it makes most of us feel "18 again"!

We have been fortunate in other ways also. When we celebrated our 60th at Rom's in Sturbridge, one of our classmates Harry Kraly, who now resides at Wrightsville Beach, NC., surprised us all by footing the whole bill! He wanted to remain anonymous but everyone guessed that he was our "good angel".

This year another one of our angels "Gingee Rischhitelli, hosted all of us at the Visions Restaurant at the new Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center - the former AO Co.

Harry Kraly again surprised us this year by sending a sizable check to put in our treasury. We are exceedingly grateful to both Harry & Gingee for their magnanimity and whole and big hearted consideration for our illustrious class of 1938.

I, Claire, pray for them (as well as all the classmates) everyday as I am sure that all of us do.
