Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
As I did right from the start.

You were right beside me
Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and gentle nature
That made me want to stay.

Now I hold you in my arms
Your breath still warm against my hand
Our hearts still beat together
And I wonder if you understand.

Through the hours that I held you
Before the light did leave your soul

I snipped the hair from around your eyes

The beauty that surrounds me

And the the power of your essecne

"Wes" (Wesley James)

It is with both sadness and joy, that I write this memorial about my sweet boy. He came as a surprise into our lives, and it seemed as thought he was always meant to be here. What a loving soul, so happy when we were happy, and so cuddly and loving, when we were sad. He could sense if someone was not well, and would not leave them. Wesley loved to chase birds in our yard, and hated the sound of a bouncing basketball. The worst sound of all...Fireworks!  I would place him on my bed and turn the T.V. up very loud. Sometimes, I would use ear plugs for him, if that still didn't do the trick!  He was a hard sleeper, even snored, but I loved to listen to him, my peaceful little boy. Favorite treats...that's a toss up, Milkbones of course, but he loved marshmallows! (sometimes he would get to share milk and cookies with mom.) Wes had many toys, all kept in a corner in a quilted apple basket. He knew them all by name.  How smart he was! His big adventure, I suppose was also his biggest challenge -- learning to find his way around after losing his sight. It never seemed to bother him though, and he learned to adjust, as only our special boy could. We are so sad that he is gone, but we know he is not suffering any longer, and he can see again. We know that he is a happy dog, because of where he was, and now, because of where he is.

You came to me as a Christmas Gift. A furry bundle of love, which I came to be your pack leader. What a wonderful little girl you were for almost 14 years. You were the daughter I otherwise would never have had, and I loved you as you loved me back. We went through good times together and bad, and  you stood with me, by my side, and I never let you down either. Very few understand that the bond we had was so special, and I thank God for every day I was blessed with you in my life. They say men are not supposed to cry...to be tough. You know me Gucci, I have cried many a tear over missing you. As you became sick, I was your caregiver, and you knew I would never allow you to suffer for my own selfishness. As you are gone, and another little Westie now lives in your old home, know, my baby, that nothing can replace my love for you, or the love we shared for each other. I will meet you at Rainbow Bridge, and when you hear "Goo Goo Belle" being called, you will know it's me. Love you 4ever Gucci,
