Westmont's American Elms and Shade Trees

American Elms - Luzerne Street

Westmont Borough

The Borough of Westmont has 195 elms planted on Luzerne Street and 15 on various other streets.  The Luzerne Street elms, the longest municipally-owned continuous stand of American Elms in the country, is nearly 3,200 feet long.  It is the last cathedral-arched boulevard in the U.S.A.

The Borough of Westmont has 3,285 shade trees.  There are forty-two species; the most abundant is the Norway Maple.  The Borough Council, through the Public Works Department, oversees the care and maintenance of the Borough's shade trees.  In 1992, a tree replacement program was instituted with the planting of 145 trees.  Each year thereafter approximately 100 trees have been planted.  If you desire to have a tree planted in the Borough R/W, you may call the Borough Office and you will be placed on the waiting list.
