30th Birthday Celebrations

1978 - 2008

Details on the calendar

Back in the autumn of 1978, several folk musicians faced a shortage of venues where they could play their music.  They came together and developed a plan to open a coffeehouse where local musicians could play.  November 30th that year marked the beginning of a Madison music institution that is, 30 years later, still in operation.  Organized as a cooperative, the smoke free environment of the coffeehouse was unique in that it provided a stage for musicians, held monthly barn dances and sponsored special events and workshops.   Who would have predicted the coffeehouse would still be around 30 years later?

It is still here so Phillip has decided to throw a really big party.  In fact, its soooo big that it will take several days to celebrate.  “This will give everyone, including Hogs that have moved elsewhere, the opportunity to come back home and party with me”, said Phillip the Pig in a recent interview. "There will be workshops, concerts, barn dances and more", he continued.
