  6. Pfc. David M. Kirchhoff 31 2133rd Transportation Company, Iowa Army National Guard Cedar Rapids, Iowa Suffered heat stroke on August 8, 2003, and was evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where he died on August 14, 2003

  8. Sgt. Paul F. Fisher 39 Detachment 1, Company F, 106th Aviation Battalion, Iowa Army National Guard Cedar Rapids, Iowa Fisher was seriously injured when his CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by a surface-to-air missile in Falluja, Iraq, on November 2, 2003. He died of his injuries at Homburg University Clinic in Germany on November 6, 2003

  25. Spc. Gregory L. Tull, 20, of Pocahontas, Iowa, died in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on Nov. 25, when an improvised explosive device detonated near hisvehicle during combat operations. Tull was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery, Storm Lake, Iowa.

  26. Sgt. Nathan R. Field, 23, of Lehigh, Iowa., Field was assigned to the Army Reserve's 4249th Port Security Company, Pocahontas, Iowa., died in Umm Qasr, Iraq, on Jan. 7, when their HMMWV was hit by a civilian vehicle. The incident is under investigation.
  27. Maj. Stuart M. Anderson, 44, of Peosta, Iowa., died near Tal Afar, Iraq, on Jan. 7, when their UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed. Anderson was assigned to the Army Reserve's 3rd Corps Support Command, Des Moines, Iowa.
  28. Spc. Daniel L. Sesker, 22, of Ogden, Iowa, died in Bayji, Iraq on April 6, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Sesker was assigned to the Army National Guard's Troop C, 1st Squadron, 113th Cavalry in LeMars, Iowa.
  29. Staff Sgt. Mark A. Wall, 27, of Alden, Iowa,died in Mosul, Iraq, on April 27, from a non-combat related cause. Wall was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
  30. Petty Officer 1st Class Jerry A. Tharp, 44, of Muscatine, Iowa, died July 12 as a result of enemy action when his dismounted patrol was struck by an improvised explosive device while operating in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. He was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25, Rock Island, Ill.
  31. Pfc. William E. Thorne, 26, of Hospers, Iowa, died on Aug 24, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Thorne was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
  32. Staff Sgt. Scott E. Nisely, 48, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died in Al Asad, Iraq, on Sept. 30 of injuries suffered when their vehicle received small arms fire during security operations. Both soldiers were assigned to the National Guard's 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, Iowa Falls, Iowa.
  33. Spc. Kampha B. Sourivong, 20, of Iowa City, Iowa, died in Al Asad, Iraq, on Sept. 30 of injuries suffered when their vehicle received small arms fire during security operations. Both soldiers were assigned to the National Guard's 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, Iowa Falls, Iowa.
  34. Lt. Col. Paul J. Finken, 40, of Mason City, Iowa died Nov. 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an IED detonated near their vehicles. Finken was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
  35. Sgt. James P. Musack, 23, of Riverside, Iowa, died of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident in Samarra, Iraq, on Nov. 21. Musack was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
  36. Lance Cpl. Clinton J. Miller, 23, of Greenfield, Iowa, died Dec. 11 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. They were assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif.
  37. Cpl. Jonathan E. Schiller, 20, of Ottumwa, Iowa, died Dec. 31 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated while they were conducting a combat patrol. Both soldiers were assigned to the 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

  38. No. 081-07: Command Sgt. Maj. Marilyn L. Gabbard, 46, of Polk City, Iowa, died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Jan. 20, when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter they were in crashed. Gabbard was assigned to Joint Forces Headquarters, Iowa Army National Guard, Camp Dodge, Johnston, Iowa.
  39. No. 126-07: Cpl. Stephen D. Shannon, 21, of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Jan. 31, in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was hit by a rocket during combat operations Jan. 30 in Ramadi, Iraq. Shannon was assigned to the 397th Engineer Battalion, Wausau, Wis.
  40. No. 199-07: Spc. Travis R. Vaughn, 26, of Reinbeck, Iowa.Vaughn was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Ky. They died Feb. 18 in southeastern Afghanistan when the Chinook helicopter they were in crashed.The incident is under investigation.
  41. No. 527-07: Pfc. Katie M. Soenksen, 19, of Davenport, Iowa, died May 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle.She was assigned to the 410th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.
  42. No. 623-07: Spc. David W. Behrle, 20, of Tipton, Iowa, died May 19 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
  43. No. 758-07: Pfc. Michael P. Pittman, 34, of Davenport, Iowa, died June 15 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
  44. No. 979-07: Sgt. Jon E. Bonnell Jr., 22, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Aug. 7 from wounds suffered while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
  45. No. 1078-07: Sgt. Kevin A. Gilbertson, 24, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Aug. 31 in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit during combat operations Aug. 29 in Ramadi, Iraq.He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
  46. No. 1046-07: Sgt. 1st Class Scott M. Carney, 37, of Ankeny, Iowa, died of wounds sustained from a non-combat related incident in Herat, Afghanistan. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. He was assigned to the 2d Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division of the Iowa Army National Guard.
  47. No. 1320-07: Spc. Adrian E. Hike, 26, of Callender, Iowa, died Nov. 12 in Bermel, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when the vehicle they were in was struck by an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany.

  1. No. 0066-08 : Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller, 24, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Jan. 25 in Barikowt, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire while conducting combat operations. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
  2. No. 136-08 : Spc. Chad D. Groepper, 21, of Kingsley, Iowa, died Feb. 17 in Diyala Province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their dismounted patrol using small arms fire. They were assigned to 2nd Battalion 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.
