  1. Chief Warrant Officer Patrick D. Dorff 32 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division Buffalo, Minnesota Dorff's OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter went down in the Tigris River during a search on January 25, 2004, after a watercraft carrying four soldiers capsized. His remains were recovered on January 29, 2004

  13. Pfc. Elden D. Arcand 22 360th Transportation Company, 68th Corps Support Battalion, 43rd Area Support Group White Bear Lake, Minnesota One of two soldiers killed when their M915A1 tractor pulling a 7,500-gallon tanker accidentally rolled over in Mosul, Iraq, on August 21, 2005
  14. Spc. Jacob T. Vanderbosch, 21, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died in Al Haqlaniyah, Iraq, on Oct. 3, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV during combat operations. The soldiers were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N. C.
  15. Master Sgt. Brett E. Angus, 40, of St. Paul, Minn., died Nov. 26 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the vicinity of Camp Taqaddum, Iraq. He was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron-372, Marine Wing Support Group-37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
  16. Cpl. Anthony T. McElveen, 20, of Little Falls, Minn. One of 10 Marines died Dec. 1 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Fallujah, Iraq. All 10 Marines were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, their unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
  17. Lance Cpl. Scott T. Modeen, 24, of Hennepin, Minn.. One of 10 Marines died Dec. 1 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Fallujah, Iraq. All 10 Marines were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, their unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
  18. Staff Sgt. Kenneth B. Pospisil 35 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force Andover, Minnesota Killed when a roadside bomb exploded during combat operations against enemy forces near Ramadi, Iraq, on December 14, 2005

2006

  1. Cpl. Andrew J. Kemple, 23, of Cambridge, Minn., died in Tikrit, Iraq on Feb. 12, when his HMMWV came under small arms fire during combat operations. Kemple was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.
  2. Lance Cpl. Robert G. Posivio III, 22, of Sherburn, Minn., Both Marines died May 23, while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. They were assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
  3. Capt. Nathanael J. Doring, 31, of Apple Valley, Minn., died May 30, following a non-hostile helicopter accident near Al Taqaddum, Iraq, on May 27. Doring was assigned to Marine Light/Attack Helicopter Squadron-169, Marine Aircraft Group-39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
  4. Spc. Brent W. Koch, 22, of Morton, Minn.died on June 16, in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. Koch was assigned to Company E, 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry Combined Arms Battalion, Hutchinson, Minn.
  5. Spc. Kyle R. Miller, 19, of Willmar, Minn., died on June 29 in Mosul, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy. Miller was assigned to the Army National Guard's Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery Regiment, New Ulm, Minn.
  6. Spc. Troy C. Linden, 22, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on July 8, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Mine Protected Vehicle (RG-31) during combat operations. All soldiers were assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Warner Barracks, Bamberg, Germany.
  7. Spc. Qixing Lee, 20, of Minneapolis, Minn. died in Taji, Iraq, on Aug 27, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their M2A3 Bradley Vehicle during combat operations. All soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
  8. Sgt. Joshua R. Hanson, 27, of West St. Paul, Minn.,died on Aug. 30, in Khaldea, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Hanson was assigned to the National Guard 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
  9. Cpl. Johnathan L. Benson, 21, of North Branch, Minn. died Sept. 9 from wounds suffered on June 17 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
  10. Staff Sgt. Kevin M. Witte, 27, of Beardsley, Minn., died on Oct. 20 in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during a combat patrol. Witte was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.
  11. Spc. Bryan T. McDonough, 22, of Maplewood, Minn.died Dec. 2 in Fallujah, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV during security operations. They were assigned to the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry, Crookston, Minn.
  12. Spc. Corey J. Rystad, 20, of Red Lake Falls, Minn.died Dec. 2 in Fallujah, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their HMMWV during security operations. They were assigned to the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry, Crookston, Minn.
  13. Pfc. Nicholas D. Turcotte, 23, of Maple Grove, Minn., died Dec. 4 in An Nasiriyah, Iraq, from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry, West St. Paul, Minn.
    The incident is under investigation.

  1. No. 128-07: Sgt. Maj. Michael C. Mettille, 44, of West St. Paul, Minn., died Feb. 1 at Camp Adder, Iraq, from a non-combat related injury.Mettille was assigned to the 134th Brigade Support Battalion, Brooklyn Park, Minn.
    The incident is under investigation.
  2. No. 230-07: Sgt. William J. Beardsley, 25, of Coon Rapids, Minn., died Feb. 26 in Diwaniyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.Beardsley was assigned to the 260th Quartermaster Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Troop Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
  3. No. 237-07: Sgt. Chad M. Allen, 25, of Maple Lake, Minn., died Feb. 28 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Allen was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
  4. No. 339-07: Sgt. Greg N. Riewer, 30, of Frazee, Minn., died Mar. 23 in Habbaniyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive devise detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations.He was assigned to the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Bemidji, Minn.
  5. No. 373-07: Lance Cpl. Daniel R. Olsen, 20, of Eagan, Minn., died April 2 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.Olsen was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.
  6. No. 403-07: Pfc. Conor G. Masterson, 21, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., died April 7 in Eastern Afghanistan of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.Masterson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.
  7. No. 449-07: Sgt. Joshua A. Schmit, 26, of Willmar, Minn., died Apr. 14 in Fallujah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. They were assigned to the 1451st Transportation Company, 13th Support Command, Iraq.
  8. No. 555-07: Spc. Robert J. Dixon, 27, of Minneapolis, MN, died May 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.Dixon was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
  9. No. 625-07: Sgt. Jason A. Schumann, 23, of Hawley, Minn., died May 19 in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.Schumann was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.
  10. No. 788-07: Pfc. Anthony D. Hebert, 19, of Lake City, Minn., died June 21 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
  11. No. 988-07Staff Sgt. Jacob M. Thompson, 26, of North Mankato, Minn., died Aug. 6 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.
  12. No. 1070-07Staff Sgt. Andrew P. Nelson, 22, of Moorhead, Minn., died Aug. 29 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit.He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
  13. No. 1362-07Sgt. 1st Class John J. Tobiason, 42, of Bloomington, Minn., died Nov. 28 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered from an incident that is currently under investigation. He was assigned to the 847th Adjutant General Battalion, 89th Regional Readiness Command, Wichita, Kan.
  14. No. 1390-07Spc. Randy W. Pickering, 31, of Bovey, Minn., died Dec. 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the Regimental Support Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Vilseck, Germany.
    The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

  1. No. 0012-08: Pfc. Joshua R. Anderson, 24, of Jordan, Minn., died Jan 2 in Kamasia, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
  2. No. 0069-08: Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Ryan Kahler, 29, of Granite Falls, Minn., died Jan. 26 in FOB Fenty, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from small arms fire in Waygul, Afghanistan. Possible friendly fire. Afghan guard (ally) possibly mistook the soldier as an enemy combatant and engaged with small arms fire. Incident is under investigation. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.
  3. No. 250-08 : Spc. Gregory B. Rundell, 21, of Ramsey, Minn., died March 26 in Taji Iraq, of wounds suffered from small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
  4. No. 300-08: Spc. Jacob J. Fairbanks, 22, of Saint Paul, Minn., died April 9 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
    The incident is under investigation.
