Camp fire safety tips

1.Build campfires where they won't spread.  Choose sites that are free from overhanging limbs or nearby slopes, rotten stumps, old logs and brambles, or dry grass and leaves.

2.Keep campfires small and do not let them get out of hand.

3.Do not stack firewood near where you intend to build your fire.

4.Keep plenty of water and shovel nearby to douse the flames if the fire gets out of control.

5.Be sure your match is out after you have lit a fire.  Douse it to be sure.

6.Never leave a campfire unattended.

7.Drown the fire with water when you are through with it.  Stir it and drown it again. If you cannot afford to use water, use dirt instead.

8.If you cook with charcoal briquettes, be sure they are completely dead when you are done with them.  Drown them, stir and drown them again.

9.Always let lanterns, stoves, and heaters cool down completely
before refueling them. Carefully follow the manufacturer's
instructions for use, especially regarding adequate ventilation.
