Ken's Buck
I have been hunting this same stand since the bow hunter opener, I had passed on many deer that came through most of them were does and yearlings. I did have a 6 pointer come in the first night I sat in my stand but instead of taking a shot I let that him pass also ( I should have taken the shot, I never seen him again).
On November 17, 2001 I got out to my tree stand much later then I wanted too. while watching the Squirrels, Chipmunks and birds I heard a noise behind me. figuring it was another squirrel I didn't pay much attention to it. After a few minutes I turned around and looked, I said to myself " That squirrel has antlers!!"
The buck was about 45 yards out and moving away from me when he presented me a shot. I thought it was the 6 pointer I had let pass earlier in the hunting season. It took one shot to put him on the ground, I waited a few minutes and caught my breath and when I looked back I didn't see him. That sickening feeling of losing a deer came over me. I got out of my stand and started walking towards the spot that I had shot him at, and there he was laying right where I shot him. (funny how well they blend in to their surroundings). He did raise his head once that's when I realized he was much bigger then the six pointer I saw earlier.
This one is a twelve point and weighed 194 lbs dressed out.
