There are several areas to go to find morels in this area. One of the most popular in the Chandler Hill area near Boyne Falls, Mich. Many, many people go there, but if you are there at the right time you can do extremely well. Other good spots are the Pidgin River area near Vanderbilt, the Jordan Valley area, Hart, Michigan and the Mesick area.

Boyne City, Michigan has an annual mushroom festival that is a blast and will be held May 18th - 21st and the Mesick mushroom festival is another that you should attend, it is always held on Mother's Day weekend. There are picking contests, rides, flea markets, and many more activities to numerous to list. Be sure to attend one or both of them, you and your family will have a great time.

Morels can be found in many different habitats, and sometimes in places where you wouldn't expect them to be anywhere around. Good places to look are around oaks, ash trees, elm trees, poplar groves, apple orchards and the edges of fields and power lines. Look for the "old forest" areas to hunt in, this is prime 'shroom country.
