Here is my story:
Well, on thanksgiving (2000) mid-morning - I happened
to walk into my kitchen and peek out my window. Behold, A BUCK! Well,
I was really excited and grabbed the video camera. I taped about 10 seconds
of the buck, noticed it was a non typical deer. I didn't take time to count
the points, because it dawned on me, I HAVE A FIREARMS PERMIT - where's
my gun!? I grabbed my hunter orange hat, threw on my coat - grabbed my
12 gage and
whispered to my son, "Be really quite, ma-mas gonna get
a buck!" He said, "Hurry mom, you get 'em!" Or something to that effect
and my 9 month old was sleeping.
The buck was only about 20 yards away from our house, on the edge of the woods. Standing alone. I noticed a few scrapes around the area so I knew a buck was near by, but I didn't realize how big. I practically crawled on my tummy to our above ground swimming pool... and slowly stood and aimed my gun. He noticed me. I quickly made the shot. It was clean. GOT HIM! He ran a few yards and dropped. I ran inside to tell my son, "Got him! Call dads cell phone!" I grabbed my video camera, and went to tag him.
As I approached the buck, I noticed he had 10 points.
He must have been about 4-5 years old. The base of the antlers, I couldn't
fit my hand around... I tried to drag him, unsuccessfully. My husband was
only down the road, a few minutes away. He came home and helped me drag
him - The deer weighed in at a whopping 185 pounds!
