The Cimbri |

|
Three tribes of Cimbri dominate Cimbri dealings with Tavia: Credi, Dumbrani, Helvetti. Credi: The Sons of the Stag Credi lands lie directly east of Tavia. They are the closest Cimbri neighbors to the humans and the most similar to the Tavians. The credi are a rich people. The weavers' guild has negotiated almost exclusive rights to most of the fine wool produced by Credi herders. This contract has been lucrative for both peoples, although the humans seem to profit more than do the cimbri. It has also served to calm the wanderlust of the Cimbri folk. For the most part they are content with their herds and farms, although disputes over grazing near the human border flare up from time to time. The Credi married into several common and noble lines, including the Avouris clan, the erstwhile rulers of Thessala province (Tavia is its capitol.) This practice is less common now among the nobility, but much of Thessala was taken into the empire this way, through marriage. The Credi are the most powerful Cimbri tribe near Tavia. Arcois can afford to keep many warriors under his roof and they are exceptionally well-equipped. Like all cimbri they often clash with their neighbors as each test the Credi strength. Arcois King of the Credi. A barrel- chested cimbri with two lighting bolts tattooed on his chest, giving him the power to cast lightning bolts. Nectu The king's independent, golden-haired daughter. Deune
Arcois' young druid. Deune's master was killed by a hill giant
five years ago and some say he took on the mantle a bit too soon. Dumbrani: The Mountain Lords The Dumbrani are the oldest Cimbri tribe, supposedly they defeated a dekkalfar king long, long ago and took their lands. Their mountains are dark and forbidding, some of which lie between Thessala and Rolgulka. Possibly for this reason, they are thought of as a dark and mysterious people (Unseelie). Donn The portly king of the Dumbrani. Donn is short-legged and balding. Unlike most of the cimbri he sports a full, dark red beard - the whole effect almost makes him look like a dekkalfar. Donn is both a mighty warrior and sorcerer. Brianne Brianne is a blue-eyed, blonde Cimbri woman, much taller than her father. She is married to Brice, and now lives with the Helvetti, far to the south. Krossbyr a Dumbrani Grand Druid often found in the court of King Donn. Krossbyr wears a wild shock of snow-white hair and carries a staff made of thorns. He is wise, but quick to anger and judge. Helvetti: Lords of the Forests The Helvetti lands are found south and west of Thessala. They are dominated by thick forests. The Helvetti are mighty hunters and trappers. Their woodlands produce fine pelts of beaver, deer, bear, etc. The Helvetti are the youngest Cimbri tribe, having taken their land from a more ancient woodland tribe about the time that humans were moving into the area. The Helvetti have gone to war twice with the humans since. The last battle, in 442, saw inital success for the Helvetti destroying a 300 man calvalry unit that they lured into their wood. The Helvetti got as far as the gates of Tavia, before they were driven back by the humans and their Credi allies with heavy casualties. It is said that the Helvetti have never recovered from this defeat, nor forgiven the Credi for their part in it. Emrys The elderly king of the Helvetti. Emrys was once a great war leader, but now his limbs have failed him. He is normally borne on his thone by four cimbri warriors. Brice Emrys son. Married to Brianne. Brice is a thrice-tattooed Cimbri warrior. He recently returned from long years as a mercenary for the Iconian army. His time with the humans has made him some enemies with members of his tribe, but has turned him into a hardened warrior. Machara The druidess of the Helvetti. Machara is young but powerful beyond her years. They call her the storm woman. She is a great leader among her people and the unabashed lover of the ancient king Emrys
