Build your own portage cart!
Plans:
Not very artsy, but you get the idea....
Cut the steel rod to the desired
width. drill holes in rod just large enough for a 5/16" hitch pin to fit. Holes
should be far enough apart so that washers and wheels can fit snugly between them. Thread
bow bumper onto rod, and install inner hitch pins, inner washers, wheels, outer washers,
and outer hitch pins.
That's it! You're done!
Finished Product:
I took one of the straps from a
Yakima cradle set, and used it for the cart's main fastener. You can also add bungies if
the fit isn't quite to your liking with just the strap. This works really great, and the
10" wheels have demonstrated some promising off-road qualities up in Maine. You can
use smaller wheels if you like, so that you can put the cart in your rear hatch (This one
fit in my Narpa just fine --- can't get it in the Caribou, though).
