Angels-the
very word conjures up an image of lovely heavenly beings, light and free,
the
ethereal embodiments of goodness and generosity, representations of our
hopes. angels, I believe, are strong when we are weak and are able
to help us when we cannot help ourselves.
The
word "angel" comes from the Greek "angelos", meaning messenger.
The
concept of angels has its origins in the ancient religion of Mesopotamia.
Convinced
that there was more to reality than was obvious, the Mesopotamia's believed
that the divine power that created the world communicated with its inhabitants
through spirit
messengers,
angels, who journeyed on a pathway between heaven and earth.
Angels
appear in classical myth and philosophy, in the vision of Shamans, in Hinduism,
Buddhism, Taoism, Aoroastrianism, and Islam, as well as in Judaism and
Christianity.
In
all traditions, angels serve as messengers of God and according to many
traditions
each
person on earth has a guardian angel.
Robert
Burton claims that "Every man hath a good and a bad angel attending on
him
in particular, all his life long."
