A Tribute to Mom

When I think of my mother, I am always reminded of the story of Hannah, the mother of Samuel. After three daughters, my mother wanted a son. She prayed for a son. I was brought into this world under the veil of prayer. I know that the prayers did not stop once I was born. My mother spends many hours on her knees in prayer for me, as she has done throughout my entire life.

My mother did more than pray for me. I remember my mother teaching me in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Backyard Bible Clubs. My mother never took lightly the responsibility of a parent to train up a child in the way he should go. (Proverb 22:6) All my life, my mother always pointed me toward God and His Word.

Finally, my motherís generosity was an example to her children. We saw my mother giving of herself to others. We didnít have a lot to give monetarily, but she gave her time and talents. My mother was industrious. She could take little bits and pieces and turn it into something. She helped friend, family, church, and neighbor in times of need.

My mother honors God with her life. She still prays for me. I know she still helps others in their times of need. Even though all her children are grown, she still teaches children at church. I thank God that I had a godly mother who honors God. It has made all the difference in my life.

Charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away, but a woman who honors the Lord deserves to be praised. (Proverbs 31:30 CEV)
