When Donna and I
were married we didn't realize it, but we were
creating the All American family. Her mother's
family, Giles and Carroll, came from the South and
fought proudly with the CSA. My mother's
family, Voorhees and Cline, came from the North and
fought proudly for the Union Army. The first
meeting of the two families that we know of was when
Sherman marched through Georgia, leading the
Voorhees' among others, and tromped through the
Giles territory between Atlanta and the sea.
Ouch!
Meanwhile her father's family, Taylor and Tucker,
were in the Oklahoma/Texas area, and (I tell her) my
father's family, Wilson and Campbell, were still in
Scotland, running around in skirts and painting
themselves blue.
You may be relieved to know
that we aren't still fighting the Civil War.
